HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 22, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team, ranked sixth in the East Region, used two second half goals to defeat Nazareth College, 3-1, in the Ducks' Empire 8 Conference home opener. With the victory, Stevens is now 6-1 overall on the season and 2-0 in the Empire 8, while Nazareth falls to 4-2-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.

The Ducks trailed early in the contest after Nazareth recorded the first score of the game off a corner kick in the 25th minute of play. Tyler Carr sent her service into the middle of the box and found Sarah Eichelberger, whose header attempt wound up being re-directed into the net by Amanda Sudore for the first score of the match.

After the Golden Flyers tally, Stevens seized control of the game and ripped off four shots, three of which were saved, over an eight-minute span. The Ducks finally cashed in on the offensive pressure at the beginning of the 44th minute when junior forward Jessie Wos (Mukwonago, Wis.) sneaked a shot through the legs of Naz's goalkeeper to knot the game at one a piece. Senior forward Brittany Odgers (Roseland, N.J.) found Wos in the middle of the penalty area for the assist.

Stevens continued the offensive pressure in final 45 minutes of action, outshooting the Golden Flyers, 5-2, up until sophomore forward Ann Heine (Sammamish, Wash.) recorded the game-winner exactly 30 minutes after the Wos tally. Heine picked up her seventh goal of the season and fourth game-winning marker on a 25-yard blast after crossing over her defender, leaving Heine with a wide open attempt on net.

The Ducks would add an insurance goal eight minutes later off a corner from sophomore midfielder Mariah Cleveland (Los Gatos, Calif.) that found junior back Lindsay Stoll (Bellevue, Wash.) for a header. As Cleveland's service was in mid-flight, Stoll rushed under the ball and jumped above the defender to pick up her second goal of the season.

Senior Teegan Kelly (Charlton, N.Y.) was back in net for Stevens after a five-match absence and picked her up second victory of the season with four saves. Kelly played all 90 minutes in goal for the Ducks.

Stevens dominated the match in shots, 19-7, and held a slim edge in corners, 5-3.

The Ducks will be back on the pitch next Wednesday, September 26 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Drew University for a non-conference showdown in Madison, N.J.
