HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 26, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team dropped a tough four set match to the visitors of Haverford College on Wednesday evening in Canavan Arena. Stevens took the first set 25-20, but fell in the next three, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18, dropping to 4-11 on the season and Haverford improves to 11-2. Two Ducks recorded double-doubles in the contest, while a third came up just short.
Junior outside hitter
Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) led Stevens with a .250 hitting percentage and tallied 15 kills to go along with 14 digs. Caulson recorded six of the team's 13 kills in the fourth set. Senior opposite hitter
Maggie Kowalska (Edison, N.J.) also posted a double-double with 17 kills and 16 digs in the loss. Kowalska picked up five of her kills in the opening set victory.
Leading the match in assists, junior setter
Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) handed out 43 helpers and chipped in nine digs, while freshman outside hitter
Annemarie Thomas (Durham, N.C.) added eight kills and six digs.
Sophomore defensive specialist
Kirsten Salmins (Wyckoff, N.J.) and freshman setter
Catie Shelton (Central Square, N.Y.) each registered seven digs for the Ducks.
Haverford's
Olivia Walsh dished out 34 assists, while
Madison Fuelling led all players with 19 digs.
Nina Mutty and
Meg O'Day each posted 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
Stevens will be back in Canavan on Friday and Saturday for the Ducks Invitational for four matches. On Friday, Stevens plays at 4 and 8 p.m. and then returns to the Arena on Saturday for two more games at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
