RIVERDALE, N.Y. (September 8, 2012) – The No. 18 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team lost its second 1-0 match of the young season on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup with New York University. Stevens has outscored its opponents 6-3 but is 2-2 on the year. Goalkeeper Paul Killian (Ellicott City, Md.) came up with seven saves for the Ducks on the afternoon.
The Violets outshot the Ducks 7-3 in the first half and 19-7 overall. Stevens did not test NYU goalkeeper Jonas Poster (Newton, Mass.) until the second half. The Ducks put three shots on goal for the game, but none found paydirt.
The Ducks had their best chance three minutes into the second half, when Zach Adler (McKinney, Texas) bent a free kick from the left edge of the box that Poster dove and saved.
NYU scored at the 58:17 mark. A free kick from Tino Kardasiss (Princeton, N.J.) was headed across the box by Kyle Green (Dallas, Texas). Paolo Luciano (White Plains, N.Y.) then one-touched the ball into the Stevens net for the only goal of the game.
In the final minute there was a mad scramble for the ball in front of the NYU cage as Stevens tried to tie the game, but nothing came of it and the Ducks fell 1-0.
The Ducks will be back in action on Wednesday, when they will host The College of New Jersey at 4 p.m. at DeBaun Athletic Complex.
