NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 23, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball squad improved to 22-5 on the season with a 3-0 victory at Baruch College on Wednesday night in New York City. The sweep marks the 10th perfect match Stevens has posted this season.
In the straight sets triumph, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18, sophomore
Kristen Herchenroder (Breezy Point, N.Y.) and freshman
Christina Sciarra (Montclair, N.Y.) both posted a team-high nine kills for Stevens. Herchenroder hit .400 on 20 swings, while Sciarra took 22 attempts and hit at a .364 clip. Herchenroder also recorded seven digs.
Senior
Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.) handed out 32 assists to lead all players. Gates also tallied six digs and three service aces. Classmate
Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) recorded eight kills, five digs and a match-best four aces for the Ducks.
Junior
Kirsten Salmins (Wyckoff, N.J) paced the Ducks defensively with 11 digs, while sophomore
Catie Shelton (Central Square, N.Y.) chipped in four digs, three aces and two assists.
Junior
Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) added five kills.
The Ducks head to Elizabethtown College on Saturday, October 26 for two matches as part of a four-team tournament. Stevens plays Penn State-Altoona at 2 p.m. and will then take on the winner of Elizabethtown and Muhlenberg College at 4 p.m.
