Jorge Rojas and freshman
Kirk Visser each won 15 bouts to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team to a 6-1 day at the Vassar Invitational Sunday in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
The Ducks fenced well all day, getting wins over Hunter (19-8), Lafayette (18-9), Vassar (15-12), Haverford (22-5), Army (20-7) and Yeshiva (18-9). Their lone loss of the day was to Sacred Heart (16-11).
Stevens is now 7-1 after six victories Sunday and the triumph over NYU Thursday night.
Eight different Ducks won double-digit bouts on the day. In foil, Senior captain
Anthony Worthington went 14-2, Rojas was 15-3 and sophomore
Daniel Tracey finished 14-6.
Leading the epee unit was Visser at 15-5, classmate
Logan Koester finished 12-up and three down, and fellow freshman
Stephen Rienzi was 11-4.
For the sabre squad, freshman
Michael Szczesniak finished went 10-4, freshman
Joseph Falvo was 9-5 and junior
Marco Egizi was 12-9.
"The team really started to come together today," Head Coach
Jim Carpenter said. "We started five freshmen for most of the day and they got steadier and stronger as the day went on."
Stevens will return to action November 17 in Haverford, Pa.
