Men's Fencing Battles at NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championship

Haverford, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's fencing team sent three fencers into the Second Round of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championship on Saturday.

The Ducks faced Division I and Division III programs, including competitors from the University of North Carolina, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and NJIT.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Spencer Depew and Chinli Ong both advanced out of their respective pools to move into the second round. Depew had a 5-1 record, leading Pool 1 with five victories and 28 touches. He downed Tyson Deck of Penn State, Stephen Yarosh of Haverford, Jason Ahlman of Drew, and Leo Feng of Princeton. He bowed out in the second round, scoring 12 touches. Ong moved on after tallying two victories, besting Charlie Dolan of Wagner and Andy Loo of Haverford. Ong was eliminated in round two after scoring five touches.

Riley Parker had a strong showing at epee, going 4-1 and leading his pool with 24 touches recorded. Parker tallied victories over Tyler Morse of Lafayette, Ayerton Sako of Wagner, William Morton of Drew, and Kozmo Rhyu of Duke University. The sophomore moved onto the second pool but was unable to advance despite scoring 12 touches.

Skanda Krishnan and Donovan Aggeler each added two wins at epee. Krishnan was a winner in Pool 3 against Maximo Zafft of UNC and Jack Richards of Haverford, while Aggeler topped Ayan Bhatnagar of Johns Hopkins and Eric Chen of Haverford.

Nick Reznick and Dev Badlani collected multiple victories at foil. Reznick went 3-3 with 22 touches in Pool 5, knocking off Nicholas Wu of Penn, Carlos Grodman of NJIT, and Jason Sobon of Drew. Badlani had two wins in Pool 3, defeating Robert Roundtree of NJIT and Diego Lara of Wagner.
