Regan Takes Second in 5K with School Record Time at Day One of ECAC’s

NEW YORK CITY (March 1, 2013)
– Freshman Amy Regan (Green Brook, N.J.) re-established her own school record in the 5,000-meter run by 27 seconds for the Stevens Institute of Technology women's indoor track & field team in the first day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at the New York City Armory. As a team, Stevens is currently seventh overall with 10 points.

Regan finished the race in second place overall with a time of 17:23.10, surpassing her old mark of 17:50.36 in December. She provisionally qualified for NCAA's and currently holds the 18th best time in the country, while also ranking as the third best freshman in the nation.

Sophomore Amira Dardir (Jersey City, N.J.) took seventh in the pentathlon with a school-best 2,890 points. Dardir surpassed her own school standard by 23 points and highlighted the event with a first place showing in the high jump (1.61 meters – 5 feet, 3.25 inches) and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.60 seconds).

Senior Rebecca Tylock (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also topped her own school standard in the pole vault with a cleared height of 3.36 meters (11' .25”). Tylock took 14th in the event.

Today's events wrapped up with junior Tiffany Evangelou (Fair Lawn, N.J.) in the 60 hurdles. Evangelou crossed the line in a time of 9.53 seconds and is 20th in the preliminaries.

Three Ducks have yet to compete. Senior Alina Duran (West New York, N.J.) kicks off the final day at 10 a.m. in the weight throw, freshman Gladys Njoku (Cedar Grove, N.J.) participates in the high jump at 12:30 p.m. and junior Kelly Freed (Rutherford, N.J.) competes in the 1,000-meter run at 12:40 p.m.
