HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 13, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team tallied its 10th consecutive victory to start the season with a 3-1 victory over SUNY Geneseo on Friday night in Canavan Arena. Friday's match was Stevens' home opener and part of the annual Ducks Classic Tournament.

Stevens started slowly to open the evening with a 25-22 setback in set one, but responded with wins in the final three sets, 25-21, 25-12, 25-19, to defeat Geneseo (4-5). In the match, Stevens hit .239 as a team to just .110 for the Knights. The Ducks also held an edge in blocks with 8.5 to five, and also recorded eight service aces.

Freshman Christina Sciarra (Montclair, N.J.) paced Stevens with 15 points on 13 kills and four block assists. Sciarra hit .367 in the showdown with just two errors in 30 swings. Senior Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) was close behind with 14.5 points on the evening. Caulson registered 11 kills, five digs and two aces.

Freshman Mary Tobin (Boothwyn, Pa.) and junior Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) also eclipsed double-digit points with 13.5 and 12.5, respectively. Tobin put down 12 kills to go along with 12 digs, while Hall posted seven kills, seven blocks, three digs and two aces.

The Ducks' offense ran through senior Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.), who handed out a match-best 48 assists. Gates also pitched in 10 digs and three aces. On the defensive end, junior Kirsten Salmins (Wyckoff, N.J.) re-established her career high in digs with 30. Sophomore Annemarie Thomas (Durham, N.C.) rounded out the night for Stevens with nine kills.

Stevens plays two more matches tomorrow against Kean University and FDU-Florham. The Ducks open the morning with FDU at 12 p.m. and then wrap up with Kean at 4 p.m.
