Buckman Sprint Triathlon 2013

Before the sun rose in the morning of Sept 15th, 2013, The Stevens Triathlon team met in 8th street lot to head to the Buckman Sprint Triathlon. For the collegiate division, the swim was 0.5 miles comprising of two laps, a 17 mile bike ride, and a 5k run made up of two laps.

Luke Niezelski was the top finisher for the men, finishing in 5th overall with a 1:20:21. Joe Huyett, who is normally a contender for the top places accidentally missed a turn in the bike leg, and rode a few extra miles, putting him in 37th overall with a 10:30:41. Finishing directly behind him was Henry Hernandez with a 1:30:48. Jack Rees, who did very well at Lake George, his first triathlon, unfortunately blew out a tire, and was unable to finish. This was the first race of the season for Thomas Loop, Carrick Porter, and Jonathan Collins. Thomas came in 101st overall with a 2:06:28, Carrick finisher 41st with a 1:33:18, and Jonathan finished 43rd with a 1:34:46.

Megan Lisbon was the frontrunner for the women's team and came in 39th overall. This was a 6th place finish for the women, with a 1:32:01. This was also the first race of the season for Nicole Miller, who came in 24th for the women, and had a 1:47:01. Other participants were Anne Fodor, with a 1:41:55, Sharon Rooker, with a 1:44:28, and Elena Piper, with a 1:42:16.

This was the third race of the season and the team did very well despite some hiccups. The next race for the season is the Buzzard's Bay Sprint Triathlon in Westport, MA. It is on Sunday, September 22nd, 2013, and we have 13 people going.
