Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. (September 21, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team was scheduled to play two Empire 8 Conference matches today but a power outage forced Stevens to play just one contest at Oneonta High School against Utica College. The Ducks came away with a 3-0 victory to improve to 14-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The matches were supposed to take place on the campus of Hartwick College, but the outage displaced Stevens to a different venue in Oneonta. The contest with Utica was delayed significantly which forced the Nazareth College match to be postponed to a later date.

Stevens came away with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-13, sweep of the Pioneers. The Ducks hit .303 as a team and tallied seven service aces. Seven of those aces were recorded by senior Samantha Gates (Wilmington, N.C.), who also handed out 26 assists to go along with seven digs and two kills.

Junior Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) hit .600 on 15 swings with nine kills and no errors. Hall also recorded four total blocks. Freshman Mary Tobin (Boothwyn, Pa.) was the lone Duck to reach double-digit kills with 10 and hit .348.

Freshman Becca Youngman (Rochester, N.Y.) added four kills and six digs, while junior Kirsten Salmins (Wyckoff, N.J.) paced Stevens with 10 digs.

Stevens will play again on September 25 at Haverford College at 7:30 p.m. Next weekend, the Ducks will host the Stevens Invitational on the 27th and 28th. Check back later for a make-up date for the Nazareth match.
