HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 28, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team swept Brooklyn College in its final match of the Stevens Invitational on Saturday in Hoboken to lift its record to 15-4 on the season.
The Ducks used a team effort to come away with a 25-12, 25-9, 25-13 victory over the Bulldogs and get back on the winning track after two losses yesterday. Stevens never trailed in any set and hit .353, compared to -.075 by Brooklyn. The Ducks also tallied 12 service aces as a team.
Sophomore
Kristen Herchenroder (Breezy Point, N.Y.) paced Stevens with nine kills in 17 swings for a .529 hitting percentage and added four aces and four digs. Freshman
Becca Youngman (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded eight kills for the Ducks.
Junior
Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) hit at an .857 clip with six kills on seven attempts, while senior
Mary Caulson (West Islip, N.Y.) registered five kills in nine tries.
Junior
Ashley Castillo (Cresskill, N.J.) handed out a team-best 26 assists to go along with four aces and four digs. Freshman
Mary Tobin (Boothwyn, Pa.) was nearly perfect in kills, going 4-for-5 at the net and chipped in four digs.
Senior
Lindsay Stoll (Issaquah, Wash.) added three kills from the front line and sophomore
Catie Shelton (Central Square, N.Y.) led the Ducks with seven digs.
Stevens will head up to Elmira College for four matches against Empire 8 Conference competition from October 3 to the 5th. The Ducks open up with Nazareth College for a makeup contest on the 3rd and then play St. John Fisher College on the 4th. Empire 8 crossover play concludes in Upstate New York with matches against Elmira and Alfred University on the 5th.
