HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 16, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology basketball teams will host Houghton College and Alfred University this weekend to conclude the first half of Empire 8 Conference play. Houghton and Stevens square off on Friday night, while Alfred will be in Canavan Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The men play at 6 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The women are schedule to begin at 8 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
Both Ducks' squads will look to rebound this weekend after tough losses to Hartwick College on Tuesday. The men (8-5, 3-2) fell to Hartwick, 74-68, in the opener on Tuesday evening and the women (8-5, 2-3) lost on a last-second shot to the first place Hawks, 65-64.
Houghton enters tomorrow's night doubleheader with a 3-10 record for the men and 4-9 on the women's side. Last season, Stevens swept all four contests with the Highlanders – the men won by an average of 25 points and the women prevailed by an average of 14.
The Ducks are a combined 24-0 against Alfred since 2007-08 but will be tested by the Saxons on Saturday. Alfred's men are currently first in the Empire 8 with a 3-0 record in conference and 10-2 overall, while the women are 5-7, 0-3. The Saxons play contrasting styles of basketball, as the men rank second in Division III in scoring offense at 98.8 points per game and the women have held their opponents to under 60 points in six contests.
Giveaways will be available to Duck fans all weekend. Tomorrow night, fans will receive water bottles upon entry to the men's game and flashlights before the women's contest. On Saturday, an assortment of t-shirts will be distributed into the crowd as part of T's-for-Threes.
