HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 23, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team is climbing several national statistical categories according to the latest release from the national office on Wednesday.
 
Stevens cracks the top-50 in total steals at No. 43 (133) and steals per game at No. 49 (9.0). The team is No. 54 three-point field-goal percentage (38.5 percent) and 65th in assists per game, dishing out an average of 15.3.
 
Individually, senior guard 
Matt Skrelja (Clark, N.J.) is 24th in steals per game, averaging 2.54 each outing, while sophomore guard 
Evan Klimchak (Readington, N.J.) is 57th-best in free-throw percentage (86.2 percent). Junior forward 
Patrick Sabatino (Westfield, N.J.) is 63rd in blocked shots per game (1.87), with Skrelja currently 70th in assists per game at 4.6.
 
Stevens (10-5 overall, 4-2 Empire 8) will visit conference foes Ithaca College and Utica College on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, respectively. Stevens is currently tied for third in the conference standings behind Hartwick College (5-1) and St. John Fisher College (4-1). The Ducks and Nazareth College each are at 4-2 with Alfred checking in one-half game behind at 3-2.
 
Ithaca and Utica are 0-6 and 1-5, but each team definitely has the talent and ability to get conference wins on their home floor. Currently, Stevens is 1-1 in the conference away from Canavan Arena and 2-2 overall on the road.
 
The Ducks downed Utica in Hoboken, 81-67, on January 3, and came back the next day with a 75-50 win over the Bombers. Since then, Stevens has earned conference wins over Naz and Alfred, and suffered defeats at the hands of Fisher and Hartwick. The Ducks also went on to get a non-conference wins at Merchant Marine and home against Houghton.
