OWINGS MILLS, Md. (October 11, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team had its 11-match winning streak snapped after defeating Gettysburg College in a tri-match at Stevenson University on Saturday. Stevens (19-4) swept Gettysburg, but fell to the host Stevenson in the final match of the day.
The Ducks took down Gettysburg, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21, but came up short against the Mustangs, 28-26, 25-20, 25-20.
Stevens 3, Gettysburg 0 In the opener, freshman
Brianna Evans (Spokane, Wash.) paced all players with 14 kills to go along with 10 digs. Evans also recorded five total blocks.
Sophomore
Mary Tobin (Boothwyn, Pa.) tallied 12 kills on a .333 hitting percentage with 11 digs, while classmate
Christina Sciarra (Montclair, N.J.) guided the Ducks with a .346 clip on nine kills in 26 swings.
Senior
Ashley Castillo (Cresskill, N.J.) dished out 35 assists, while freshman
Sydni Horner (Columbia, Md.) contributed 22 digs.
Stevenson 3, Stevens 0 The Ducks struggled offensively against Stevenson, hitting just .187 to .266.
Tobin led the way with 12 kills to go along with nine digs, while Castillo handed out 27 more assists with nine digs.
Senior
Katie Hall (Midlothian, Va.) posted a .364 hitting percentage with six kills in 11 swings, while Evans added seven more kills to her day with 10 digs and six service aces.
Horner posted a team-high in the match with 17 digs, while Sciarra registered five kills.
Junior
Catie Shelton (Central Square, N.Y.) stepped in defensively with nine digs.
Stevens returns to action on October 15 for Senior Night against St. Joseph's-Long Island at 7 p.m.
