SWARTHMORE, Pa. (October 9, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team and Swarthmore College (6-5-2) went scoreless over the last 53 minutes Wednesday to end the game in a 1-1 tie.
The draw was the first of the season for Stevens whose record moved to 8-3-1.
Senior
Kevin Calloway got the Ducks on the board in the first half with a goal in the 16
th minute. After a free kick bounced off the back post, Calloway headed in the rebound to give Stevens the lead. Sophomore
Patrick Masur was credited with the assist in what was Calloway's third score of the season.
Swarthmore came back with a pair of shots in the 28
th and 32
nd minutes, but the first sailed wide before sophomore
Mike Renna made the save on the second to keep the Stevens lead intact going into the break.
The Ducks outshot Swarthmore 6-5 in the half included 3-1 in shots on goal.
Swarthmore evened the score early in the second half when senior Michael Stewart beat Renna to the right side of the net in the 57
th minute. The goal was the first Stevens has given up since Sep. 13 against Muhlenberg College, snapping a five match shutout streak.
Swarthmore kept the pressure on for much of the half, but the Ducks defense blocked multiple shots before Renna made a save in the 88
th minute to send the game to overtime. Swarthmore was the only side to get a shot off in the first overtime which went high before both sides traded shots that missed in the second overtime.
