ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 28, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team was picked to finish third in the Empire 8 according to a poll of the league's head coaches.
Ithaca College was selected to win the conference with 46 points and four first-place votes, and St. John Fisher College was No. 2 (44 points). Stevens received one first-place vote and 36 points, with Nazareth College checking in fourth, Utica College fifth, Elmira College sixth, Hartwick College seventh and Alfred University eighth.
Stevens earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament a season ago after going 4-3 in the conference. The Ducks fell in the semifinals to No. 1 seed Ithaca.
It was the 10th-straight postseason for the Ducks as three players earned first-team all-conference honors and that same trio was named All-Boardwalk Region.
Stevens is currently 1-1 on the season after an emphatic season-opening win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent, and a tough-luck loss to Farmingdale State College Wednesday.
The Ducks will host Montclair State University on Saturday at 11 a.m. and open Empire 8 play with three road games in late March; March 22 and Hartwick, March 28 at Utica and March 29 at Elmira. Stevens' first E8 home contest is against Alfred University April 5.
