Women’s Lacrosse Among National Leaders Ahead of Rowan Game

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 2, 2014)
 – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team – fresh off a 2-0 Empire 8 road weekend – heads into a Wednesday showdown against Rowan University on a three-game win streak and among national leaders in several statistical categories.
 
The Ducks go into Wednesday's showdown 5-5 overall and tops in the Empire 8 at 3-0. Rowan is currently 5-2 overall (0-0 NJAC) having won its last two contests against Keene St. and Haverford College.
 
Stevens cracks the top-50 in draw controls per game, averaging 14.20 and finds itself 55th in total points with 168. The Ducks lead the Empire 8 in draws, and are second in points, ground balls per game (22.7), caused turnovers per game (9.9) and scoring offense (94 goals).
 
Individually, freshman Kathleen Kalbian (Cheshire, Conn.) is 23rd in ground balls per game (4.7), 48th in draw controls per game (5.0) and 49th in caused turnovers per game (2.3). The Duck freshman is first in the league in ground balls and second in the Empire 8 in both draw controls and caused turnovers,  with sophomore Erika Wilcox (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) checking in 50th nationally and No. 2 in the empire 8 in goals with 31.
 
Following the Rowan game, Stevens will return to action with its first Empire 8 home game of the year vs. Alfred University as the Ducks look to improve to 4-0 in the E8. The battle with the Saxons kicks off a five-game home stand for Stevens after four-straight road matchups.
