Rafferty Gets 200th Point as Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Over Houghton on Senior Day

HOBOKEN, N.J. (April 24, 2014) – Senior attack Kara Rafferty (Bayshore, N.Y.) scored the 200th point of her career in what turned out to be a 10-point performance, and the Stevens Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team improved to 7-7 on the season with a 20-4 win over Houghton College at the De Baun Athletic Complex Thursday.
 
Rafferty's 10 points were a career-high as the Stevens veteran poured in seven goals and three assists, notching seven points in the first half and three in the second. Her 200th came with 10:17 left in the game, putting away a perfect feed from sophomore midfielder Erika Wilcox (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) who had seven points on the afternoon behind three goals and four helpers.
 
Ten different Ducks recorded points with Rafferty's 10 leading the way. The senior captain also added six draw controls to her line. Senior goalie Sarah Prall (Lansdale, Pa.) – who along with Rafferty was honored at halftime as part of Senior Day – earned the win in goal for the Ducks making five denials and picking up three ground balls.
 
Wilcox added two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers to her line of seven points, while freshman midfielder Kathleen Kalbian (Cheshire, Conn.) had two goals and four draw controls. Freshman defender Madison Annitto (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallied four ground balls and four caused turnovers, while rookie Mariel Haubrich (Ocean City, N.J.) had one goal, two assists and two ground balls. Junior defender Amanda Ingersoll (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had four ground balls and three caused turnovers, and junior attack Andrea Dragoni (Easton, Pa.) pocketed one goal and one assist. Freshman midfielder Caroline DeLuca (Sayville, N.Y.) had two goals for the Ducks.
 
Stevens finished the contest with a 34-11 margin in shots and only committed 13 total turnovers. The Ducks ended with a 22-17 margin in ground balls, and won 15-of-25 draws. The Ducks were a perfect 16-for-16 on clear attempts as well.
 
The Ducks took a 4-0 advantage 2:35 into the action and never looked back, eventually settling on a 17-2 halftime margin and cruising to the win.
 
Stevens will return to the pitch at Nazareth College and St. John Fisher College Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Ducks have already clinched a spot in the upcoming conference tournament and can finish anywhere from second-to-fourth.
