Erika Wilcox (Baldwinsville, N.Y.).
Stevens finishes its regular season with an overall record of 7-9 and a ledger for 4-3 in the Empire 8. The Ducks will enter the 2014 Empire 8 Championship as the No. 4 seed and will face Ithaca College on Saturday, May 3 in the semifinals. Second-seeded St. John Fisher and third-seeded Nazareth College will square off in the other semifinal.
Fisher – ranked No. 18 in the latest IWLCA poll – held a 32-16 edge in shots, putting 22 on goal. The Cardinals won 14-of-24 draw controls and held a 15-12 cushion in ground balls.
The hosts jumped out to an early 6-2 lead behind multiple goals from
junior Lindsey Shoales (West Monroe, N.Y.) and
Sierra Badger (Constantia, N.Y.), but the Ducks closed the first half with two scores – one from freshman midfielder
Mariel Haubrich (Ocean City, N.J.) and senior attack
Kara Rafferty (Bayshore, N.Y.).
The Cardinals went up 8-4 early in the second half, with Hughes' second bring the Ducks back within three goals with 24 minutes to play.
Two more from Fisher gave it is a 10-5 edge, with Kalbian and Wilcox accounting for the final three Stevens goals of the game.
Kalbian added two caused turnovers and a draw control to her line, while freshman defender
Madison Annitto (Smithtown, N.Y.) had two ground balls and a caused turnover. Rafferty had one goal, one assist and two draw controls, and junior defender
Gabriela Sanchez (Auburn, N.H.) scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover. Wilcox finished with two draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover as well as her two tallies. Her second goal gave her 100 points for her career. The second-year Duck had 32 points as a rookie and currently has 62 through 16 games in 2014.
Junior
Mel Welcome (Winsted, Conn.) made seven saves in goal for the Ducks.
