Harrison Kane and
Carson Pryor, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team shutout The College of New Jersey 2-0 Wednesday night in Hoboken.
The win evens Stevens' record at 2-2-0 while TCNJ dropped to 3-3-0.
Stevens applied the pressure early on with shots on goal from sophomore
Patrick Masur and Pryor in the first 10 minutes. Pryor's was an uncontested opportunity from the middle of the box, but sophomore Jake Nesteruk made a diving stop to keep the game scoreless.
TCNJ returned fire with shots in the 26
th and 27
th minutes, but both went wide before the Ducks broke through in the 38
th minute.
After junior
Harrison Kane was taken down on an across the box pass, the center-back was awarded a penalty shot. Kane took advantage, blasting a shot to the left side of the net to give Stevens a 1-0 lead they would take into the half.
The goal was Kane's first of the season.
The Ducks came out of the break and controlled the ball early before adding to the lead in the 55
th minute. Pryor controlled a pass at midfield, passed 10 yards back to sophomore
Jay Mikula who floated a pass back to the sprinting Pryor. One-on-one with the goalie, Pryor lifted a shot over Nesteruk's head for his second goal of the season. The assist was Mikula's first of 2014.
The lead was enough for the Ducks as they played lock-down defense the rest of the way to secure the 2-0 win. Stevens outshot TCNJ 16-5 and tallied three more corner kicks. Sophomore
Mike Renna made two saves to clinch his first career shutout.
