Men’s Soccer Falls To Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (September 13, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision Saturday night to Muhlenberg College in Allentown.
 
The loss drops Stevens to 2-3-0 while Muhlenberg moves to 4-0-0.
 
Stevens came out strong with a pair of shots from junior Colin Phillips in the 14th minute, but both failed to reach the goalie. Muhlenberg came back with shots in the 15th and 22nd minutes, but sophomore Mike Renna made saves on both to keep the game scoreless.
 
Both teams traded possessions for the reminder of the half before senior Kevin Calloway took aim in the 42nd minute, but a team block from Muhlenberg kept the game tied at zero going into the half.
 
The Ducks had three shots at the break, two of which came from Phillips.
 
Muhlenberg threatened coming out the break with a shot from junior Tommy Hoffman in the 49th minute, but Renna made the diving save before making another in the 60th minute.
 
After Renna made two more saves in the 60th and 62nd minutes, the Mules finally broke through in minute 65. Senior Travis Wantchekon floated a pass across the box where senior Joey Roberts hit in to break the scoreless tie. Calloway attempted an equalizer in the 79th minute before another from Calloway in the 85th, but both went wide of the goal to give Muhlenberg the win.
 
Renna made six saves in goal while Stevens was able to fire 12 shots in the match.
