HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 17, 2014) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team fell to 3-4 on the season with a 4-2 loss at the hands of FDU-Florham Wednesday night at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.

FDU controlled the run of play in the early going, out-shooting the Ducks 4-0 to start, but the Ducks slowly gained their footing, eventually scoring the game's first goal in the 20th minute of action. On the play, junior forward Dailyn Brook (Cherry Hill, N.J.) positioned herself on the left post, eventually securing a pass from sophomore forward Taylor Welch (Ringwood, N.J.) and hammering home her fifth of the season.

The Devils answered with 5:15 to play in the opening period when sophomore Kim Davis (Long Branch, N.J.) fed senior Gabriella D'Amico (Mullica Hill, N.J.) in front. After tying the game at one and holding the Ducks off the board, the Devils (4-2) recorded the first three markers of the second half, getting a pair from senior Niki Ikeda (East Brunswick, N.J.).

After a Stevens timeout quieted the FDU momentum, the Ducks settled back in, getting within two at 53:40 when Welch recorded her third goal of the year. Sophomore midfielder Nolie Prouty (Glendora, Calif.) carried into the circle along the right endline and crossed in front. Brook tapped to Welch on the left post, and after controlling, put her shot in the lower-left corner.

The Ducks looked to have fought within one with 5:35 on the clock, but the goal was taken off the board due to a tough call on the shot itself.

Stevens was still able to fight, generating several corners in the final five minutes, but it could not find the back of the net and eventually fell by the 4-2 final.

Brook and Welch each had three points in the loss, and sophomore goalie Emily Stukenborg (Stockholm, N.J.) was credited with nine denials for the Ducks. FDU keeper Amy Defnet (Poolesville, Md.) notched seven stops in the win.

The Devils ended with a 21-15 margin in shots and held a slight 11-10 edge in corners.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday afternoon when it looks to even its overall and Empire 8 ledger with a game against Houghton College beginning at 12 p.m. at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
