Stevens Ducks (1-1)

The Ducks opened 2014 with a 4-0 home loss to five-time national champion Messiah College on August 29, but bounced back two days later with a 7-0 shutout over Brooklyn College.

In the victory last Sunday, sophomore Raba Nassif (Northvale, N.J.) tallied a career-high four goals and netted her hat trick within the first 13:18 of the contest. Junior Kristen Goncalves (Dix Hills, N.J.) recorded four points on a goal and two assists, while sophomore Rachel Chavkin (Franklin Park, N.J.) and freshman Sandi Komar (San Diego, Calif.) picked up their first collegiate goals. The Ducks outshot Brooklyn, 38-2.

Cortland Red Dragons (0-1)

The Red Dragons dropped their only match this year, 2-0, to No. 17 Misericordia University on August 29. Cortland was held to just three shots in the contest, all of which were saved, but received a solid performance from its own goalkeeper, sophomore Rachel Axt, who stopped six shots in the loss.

Cortland does possess three of its top four goal scorers from a year ago. Seniors Amanda Margolis (3G, A) and Caitlin Guerra (3G), and junior Jessica McFadden (2G, 2A) will all look to record their first points of 2014.

NYU Violets (1-1)

NYU kicked off the season against a pair of New Jersey institutions, Richard Stockton College and Kean University on August 29 and 30. The Violets came away with a 1-0 win against Stockton in their season opener, but fell to Kean, 2-1, the following day.

Freshman Olivia Braedner-Carr notched NYU's game-winner against Stockton in the 38th minute, while sophomore Cassie Steinberg made three saves in the shutout win in goal. The Violets were tied with Kean until the 77th minute of play on the 30th. Senior Cami Crawford netted the early equalizer in the 18th minute which was assisted by junior Melissa Menta. Steinberg made four more saves in the setback.

Vassar Brewers (1-0)

The Brewers are the only team in this year's Cup with an undefeated record after a 1-0 triumph over Mount Saint Mary College on August 29.

Wheeler put home the game-winner for Vassar in the 62nd minute of action off a pass from freshman Jessica Schwed. Junior Emma Nichols posted four saves in her first shutout of the season. Last fall, Wheeler tallied 25 points on 11 goals and three assists, while Nichols went 3-2-1 with a 0.94 goals-against average and a .878 save percentage.

At last year's Engineering Cup, Vassar defeated Stevens in double overtime, 2-1.
