Men’s Basketball Picks Up E8 Road Win at Naz

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 10, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team improved to 3-2 in the Empire 8 with a 75-68 win at Nazareth College Saturday in Rochester, N.Y.

Trailing 60-58 with 4:49 remaining, sophomore forward Otis Osman's three-point play gave the Ducks a 61-60 edge – a lead they would never let go.. Junior forward Alex Lorenz followed with a three-pointer to give the Ducks a four-point margin, and after the Golden Flyers fought back within one point (64-63), senior forward Patrick Sabatino tallied a layup thanks to a feed from freshman guard Christ Cosgrove.

Nazareth was able to get within one point on two occasions but two made free throws from Osman and freshman guard Jayson Winick continued to give the Ducks the breathing room they needed. Nazareth would close within one at one final point with 40 seconds left, but Winick nailed a pair to put the Ducks up three with 30 seconds on the clock, and Stevens got the stops in needed along with free throws to secure the conference road win.

With the win, Stevens improves to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Naz drops to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the Empire 8.

Stevens shot well throughout the contest, finishing 57.1 percent from the field and hitting 89.3 percent of its free throws (25-for-28). The 28 attempts from the stripe were the most for Stevens since 2007-08.

There were six ties and five lead changes in a tight game as each team scored 19 points off turnovers, and each team dished out 13 helpers. The Stevens bench was big throughout, outscoring the Golden Flyer bench, 24-6.

The Ducks will look to make it two wins in a row when host Ithaca College Friday night in an Empire 8 game next Friday night in the Canavan Arena.
