ROCHESTER, N.Y. (October 10, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey senior
Dailyn Brook became the program's all-time scoring leader Saturday in the Ducks 5-0, Empire 8 Conference win over Nazareth College.
Brook surpassed the mark of 53 set by Marguerite Chavez in 2011, giving the Ducks their second career mark set this season after junior
Emily Stukenborg became the all-time saves leader on opening day.
The win moved Stevens' record to 8-5 (3-2), ending a three game skid. Naz dropped to 4-8 (2-4) with the loss.
Junior
Taylor Welch led the Ducks with four points off two goals, while junior
Nolie Prouty added a goal and an assist. Stukenborg made seven saves before being relieved by senior
Felicia Heard for the final five minutes.
The win was the 30th of head coach
Amber Corcoran's career.
Prouty gave the Ducks the early lead with an unassisted goal in the sixth minute, before Brook connected with the milestone score 10 minutes later off a feed from Prouty. The goal was Brook's team-leading ninth of the season.
Welch continued the run two minutes later with her fifth goal of the season, followed by another in the 23rd minute off a pass from freshman
Janet Vill. Sophomore
Victoria Alvarez capped the scoring seven minutes later, giving the Ducks a comfortable five-goal heading into the break.
The advantage was more than enough for the Ducks as the defense limited Naz to just two shots over the first 20 minutes of the first half, before extinguishing a pair of penalty corners in the closing minutes of regulation to seal the win.
The Ducks will continue their weekend road trip tomorrow with a 1 p.m. match at Ithaca College.
