Ithaca Tops Field Hockey

ITHACA, N.Y. (October 11, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team fell 3-2 to Ithaca College Sunday in Empire 8 Conference action.

The loss dropped Stevens to 8-6 (3-3), while Ithaca moved to 9-3 (5-1).

Freshman Regan Littell and sophomore Katti Thomasian provided the Ducks scoring with one goal each, while junior goalie Emily Stukenborg made 10 saves.

Ithaca applied some early pressure with four shots over the first six minutes, however Stukenborg made the save on each to preserve the scoreless tie. Stevens answered with pressure of its own before being rewarded with the go-ahead goal in the 31st minute.

Off a rebound and pass from junior Taylor Welch, Littell found the back of the cage for her first career goal. The assist was the first of the season for Welch, bringing her season point total up to 13.

Ithaca managed the equalizer early in the second half, however the Ducks responded three minutes later with a goal from Thomasian. In a scrum in front of the cage, junior Maggie Kulpa gained possession of the ball, and delivered a pass to a well-positioned Thomasian for the score.

The goal was the fifth of the season for Thomasian, while the assist was Kulpa's first.

The lead wouldn't hold though, as Ithaca tied the game in the 46th minute, before taking the lead 10 minutes later. Stevens attempted to get the game-tying score with a four-shot offensive barrage late in regulation, however each shot either sailed wide or was saved by Ithaca's goalie.

The Ducks will return home Wednesday with a 4 p.m. game against Rowan University in Hoboken.
