ROCHESTER, N.Y. (OCTOBER 10, 2015) – Four different players tallied goals as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team shutout St. John Fisher College 4-0 Saturday.
The Ducks upped their record to 8-2-1, 3-0-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Fisher dropped to 4-6-1 and 1-2-0 in the E8.
Junior
Raba Nassif opened the scoring in the seventh minute, as she one-touched a pass from freshman
Zisi Komar to put the Ducks on the board. Stevens doubled their lead in the 30
th minute. Freshman
Olivia Butera swiped the ball from a Cardinals defender and beat the keeper for her second tally of the season.
Just over six minutes later, Nassif found senior
Kristen Goncalves who blasted the ball into the back of the net for her third goal of 2015. The three goals already marks a career-high in goals for the Dix Hills, N.Y. native. Fisher put a little pressure on the Stevens backline, but sophomore goalkeeper
Lindsey Mahnken was able to keep off the board in the opening 45 minutes, making a pair of saves.
Mahnken made another two saves in the first 28 minutes of the second half before giving way to freshman
Madi Chollett for the final 16:51. In the 69
th minute, Komar tied Nassif for the team lead in goal as she tallied her seventh mark of the year. Komar forced a turnover and floated a ball that sailed past the goalie to give the Ducks the 4-0 margin of victory.
Fisher had numerous chances to put in a goal past Chollett, but Molly Beaton hit the post, and shots by Jamie Alloco and Chelsea Grupp were snared by the keeper.
Butera had a season-high seven shots, while Nassif and Goncalves each recorded two shots on goal. Mahnken and Chollett combined to make six stops for the teams third straight shutout victory. The Ducks have not allowed a goal in 304:52 dating back to September 26.
It'll be a quick turnaround for the Ducks, as they stay in Rochester to take on Nazareth College at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
