No. 16 Women’s Soccer Tops No. 7 TCNJ 4-0

HOBOKEN, N.J. (OCTOBER 21, 2015) – Junior Raba Nassif and freshman Zisi Komar each tallied a pair of goals to send No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over No. 7 The College of New Jersey Wednesday.

The Ducks moved to 12-2-1 on the season, while the Lions suffered their first loss, dropping to 11-1-3. Coming into the contest, TCNJ had only surrendered two goals.

Sophomore Lindsey Mahnken came up with three big saves in the opening 25 minutes. At the 25:57 mark, Komar took a long feed from senior Carly Bean, and made a move around a defender. Komar then ripped a shot from just inside the box for her team leading 12th goal of the season.

TCNJ kept the pressure up, and put three shots toward the net, but every attempt was wide or was stopped. Stevens had a chance in the 44th minute to extend their lead, but a shot by sophomore Gabby Pagkalinawan was stopped by the Lions goalie.

The Ducks gave up three shots to open the second period, but the hosts were able to push across the second goal of the contest in the 61st minute. Nassif took a corner kick and the ball found the foot of Komar, who quickly one-touched it into the back of the net for her second of the evening.

The Lions thought they had cut the lead in half in the 77th minute, as sophomore Jessica Goldman rang a shot off the post. TCNJ followed up on the shot and headed the ball into the goal, but were ruled to have fouled the keeper, disallowing the goal.

Five minutes later, Nassif took a pass from sophomore Sammy Mount and deked out the goalie, breaking in all alone and scoring the all-important third goal. With 34 seconds left in the contest, Nassif once again broke in and chipped the ball over the keeper for her 10th of the season.

Mahnken made a season-high 10 saves, while Nassif and Komar combined for nine of the teams 13 shots. The victory was the first for the Ducks over the Lions since 2008.

Goldman led the game with seven shots, including four on goal, while sophomore Briyanna Femia tallied a pair of saves.

The Ducks are back in action Saturday when they travel to Utica College for an Empire 8 Conference match at noon.
