Butera’s Hat Trick Leads No. 16 Women’s Soccer Past Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (OCTOBER 24, 2015) – Freshman Olivia Butera tallied her first career hat trick to lead the No. 16 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team past Utica College 7-1 on Saturday.

The Ducks moved to 13-2-1 overall, and 6-0-1 in the Empire 8 Conference. Utica dropped to 3-12-2 and 1-6 in the E8.

Stevens wasted no time, putting their first shot on goal just 1:16 into the match. Just over seven minutes later, senior Kristen Goncalves redirected a centering pass from freshman Zisi Komar over the goalkeeper's head for her seventh tally of the season. The Ducks doubled their lead eight minutes later, as the roles reversed and Komar took a Gpncalves pass and scored her 14th marker of the season.

Butera got on the board in the 25th minute as they blasted a shot from 20 yards out into the upper corner of the net. The Pioneers cut the deficit back to two just under two minutes later, as Xiomara Rodriguez scored off a pass from Abby Reilly.

Komar added her second of the afternoon in the 35th minute, taking a quick touch pass from junior Raba Nassif and beating the keeper after being left wide open in the box. Nassif was also involved on Goncalves' second tally of the day, as she beat the keeper to a loose ball and found Goncalves who hit the ball into the unmanned net.

Butera capped off her stellar day with goals in the 83rd and 88th minutes, with Goncalves collecting assists on both tallies. The Ducks defense locked down in the second half, holding the Pioneers to one shot on goal.

Nassif and Goncalves each collected three assists and three shots, while Butera, Komar and sophomore Megan Lynes each contributed five shots. Sophomore Lindsey Mahnken and freshman Madi Chollett each recorded one save each.

Kelly Heimerle made 13 saves for the Pioneers, who also saw three players each record a single shot on goal.

The Ducks are back in action Tuesday, as they conclude their non-conference slate with a road game at Western Connecticut State University at 6 p.m.
