HOBOKEN, N.J. (OCTOBER 28, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team topped the College of New Rochelle in straight sets on senior night Wednesday.
The Ducks, who won 25-19, 25-17, 25-14, moved to 17-11, while CNR fell to 18-10.
Stevens fell behind 3-1 quickly in the opening frame, used a 4-0 spurt to grab the lead for good, capped off with an ace from freshman
Emily Piekarski. The Blue Angels pulled within three at 19-16, but the Ducks countered with six of the final nine points to claim the first set.
Senior Sarah Leclerc started the second set off with three straight points, including her first service ace of the season. After a Stevens service error made the score 9-6, the Ducks used an 8-1 run to jump ahead 17-7. The Blue Angels saved five set points, before a big double-block by sophomore

Kristen Herchenroder ended the comeback and put the Ducks up two sets.

Mary Tobin reeled off five straight markers to open the final period, taking advantage of a trio of unforced errors and a kill by senior
Catie Shelton. New Rochelle battled back to tie the frame at eight but Herchenroder spearheaded eight straight to break the set open. Kingsbury closed out the match with a kill from freshman
Brianna Perez.
The Ducks hit .269 while the Blue Angles hit .012, including -.036 in the opening period. Leclerc had a career-high eight digs to go along with a pair of service aces. Fellow senior
Annemarie Thomas notched two kills, while Herchenroder recorded seven kills and seven digs. Shelton distributed 22 assists while tallying three digs.
Stephanie Garcia led the Blue Angels with 22 digs, while Melanie Lopez Soto handed out 18 assists.
The Ducks are back in action this weekend with four matches at the NYS Regional Challenge beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.
