HOBOKEN, N.J. (OCTOBER 3, 2015) – Junior
Raba Nassif recorded a natural hat trick to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team to a 9-0 win over Elmira College Saturday.
The Ducks moved to 7-2-1 overall, 2-0-1 in the Empire 8 Conference while the Soaring Eagles dropped to 2-7-0, 2-1 in the E8.
Stevens got on the board in the 34
th minute, as freshman
Olivia Butera tallied her first career goal. At the 36:07 mark, Nassif scored her first of the match off a cross from freshman
Zisi Komar. Just 33 seconds later, Nassif took a feed from sophomore
Sammy Mount and beat the keeper on a 1-on-1 breakaway.
She followed that up with her third goal in 1:51 off a pass from Komar to put the Ducks up four. The two goals in 33 seconds and the three goals in 1:51 both set new program standards, besting the mark of each set by Melissa Shankweiler on September 17, 2001.
With 12 seconds remaining in the first half, the roles were reversed and it was Komar who deposited a Nassif cross into the back of the net. The Ducks outshot Elmira 26-0 in the first period and held a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.
Stevens tacked on four goals in the second stanza as junior
Gabby Mathelier, sophomore
Gabby Pagkalinawan, freshman
Misha Brewster and senior
Kristen Goncalves all recorded goals. Pagkalinawan scored her third goal in four games while Brewster netted one for the second consecutive game.
Komar tallied a goal and two assists while sophomore
Megan Lynes chipped in two assists off the bench. Nassif and Goncalves each had six shots with Pagkalinawan putting all three of her attempts on net. Senior
Evelyn Ting made three stops in the second half to protect the victory.
Gabe Carmona made 13 saves while Niki Lemper had two shots on goal for Elmira.
The Ducks begin a three game road trip when they travel to St. John Fisher for a 12 p.m. contest next Saturday.
