HOBOKEN, N.J. (OCTOBER 3, 2015) – Sophomore
Sydni Horner became the ninth player in Stevens women's volleyball history to record 1000 digs as she helped lead the Ducks to a pair of victories over Western Connecticut State University and Marietta College Saturday.
The Ducks have won five straight matches and moved to 11-8 on the season.
Stevens 3, Western Connecticut 0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23)Stevens came out firing, hitting .484 in the opening frame while holding the Colonials to a .235 clip. In the match the Ducks outhit their opponents .307 to .205, committing four less attack errors. Over the three sets, Stevens served up nine aces to the Colonials three.
Sophomore
Brianna Evans hit .483 with 16 kills to go along with three service aces while junior
Mary Tobin notched a double-double of 11 kills and 15 digs. Horner reached the milestone midway through the third set and finished with 24 digs.
Three Colonials had double figure digs, with Karissa Smith tallying 14 kills and 13 digs. Brittany Steele and Cady Cordes each recorded 11 digs for the visitors.
Stevens 3, Marietta 0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18)The Ducks once again controlled the game at the net, forcing 26 attack errors. In the third and deciding set, Stevens held Marietta to a -.043 hitting percentage and 12 errors. Freshman
Emily Piekarski served four aces, including three in a row during the middle set.
Evans once again had the hot hand, pounding home 13 kills and 11 digs. Three other Ducks had 10 or more digs, led by Horner's 14. Senior
Annemarie Thomas was a force in the middle, registering three kills and tallying four block assists.
Mary Ervin had 15 digs for the Pioneers while Erica Denallo and Julia Moskaluk tallied 12 digs apiece.
The Ducks travel to Poughkeepsie on Wednesday to battle Vassar College in non-conference action beginning at 7 p.m.
