HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 31, 2015) – The No. 10 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team exploded for six goals Saturday in a 6-0, Empire 8 Conference win over Nazareth College in the regular season finale.
The win ends Stevens' regular season at 13-2-2 (5-0-2), while Naz fell to 0-15-1 (0-6-1).
Senior
Colin Phillips led the Ducks with three goals, giving him his second hat trick of the season, while senior
Daniel Knight added two of his own. Freshman
Aaron Henry converted two saves in net in his first career start to earn his first career win.
As a team, the Ducks dominated 28-4 on shots, including an 18-2 margin in shots on goal.
Senior
Joe Cellitti got the Ducks scoring going in the 10th minute after sending a floater over the keeper's head, before Stevens added to the lead in minute 25. After receiving a long pass from sophomore
Tommy Dorsay, Phillips gathered control, and sent the ball to the top right corner for the score.
The goal was the 12th of the season for Phillips, while the assist was Dorsay's fifth.
With the lead in tow, Stevens preceded to add to it three minutes later with another score from Phillips off a rebounded shot from Cellitti. The lead held through the rest of the half until Phillips completed his hat trick early in the second, followed by Knight's score in the 66th.
Knight followed it up in the closing two minutes of regulation with an unassisted goal, completing the Ducks 6-0 rout.
With the regular season now over, the Ducks will await their E8 Championship fate with the result of the match between Ithaca College and Alfred University. An Ithaca win would give the Bombers the top seed, while a loss would give it to Stevens.
