Batzli Wins 200th Match For Women’s Fencing

TEANECK, N.J. (February 8, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's fencing team picked-up a 17-10 win against New Jersey Institute of Technology Sunday at the FDU Invitational.

Battling injuries and illness, the Ducks dropped matches to Johns Hopkins University (15-12), Temple University (21-6), Brandeis University (14-13), and host Fairleigh Dickinson University (14-13).

Senior Sienna Batzli picked-up her 200th career win in epee, becoming just the fourth fencer in Stevens history to reach that milestone.

Freshman Karen Kong, freshman Abby Kaye, and junior Caroleen Chen each went 10-5 for the Ducks, while foil went 3-2 as a team with wins over Johns Hopkins, Brandis and NJIT. Sabre picked-up wins against FDU and NJIT.

The Ducks will return to the strips next Sunday at Canavan Arena for the Eastern Women's Fencing Championships starting at 10 a.m.
