Robbins Gem Leads Baseball to Shutout Over CSI

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 21, 2015) – Junior Robert Robbins allowed four hits in a complete game to help the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team to a 2-0 victory over the College of Staten Island on Saturday.

Robbins picked up his third win of the season while helping the Ducks improve to 7-4 overall. He fanned seven while allowing four hits and three walks. Sophomore Brian Russell struck out two over his six innings for the Dolphins. They are now 2-4 this year.

Senior Brian Hennelly walked to lead off the bottom of the second and moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Gregg Nickels. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, he was driven in on a sacrifice fly by senior Marc Calleo. The Ducks tacked on the only other run of the game in the bottom of third after a two-out bunt single by junior Jayson Yano followed up by a single by Hennelly put runners on the corners. Hennelly broke for second and got trapped in a run-down, while Yano was able to beat the throw home and slid in safely.

The Dolphins threatened in the top of ninth after a single by junior Nick Delprete and a walk to freshman Frank Muzzio put men on first and second with only one out. Robbins escaped the jam by inducing a fly out to center and a groundout to the shortstop.

Hennelly recorded two of the five hits for the Ducks while sophomore Zeph Walters worked two walks at the plate. Freshman Elijah Rodriguez had two hits for the visitors while Muzzio reached base twice.

The Ducks will host Rowan University on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Dobbelaar Field.
