ALFRED, N.Y. (March 28, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team nearly overcame a three goal deficit in the final three minutes Saturday in a 13-12 Empire 8 Conference loss to Alfred University.
The loss dropped Stevens to 4-5 while Alfred moved to 8-1.
Sophomore
Nick Hammell and freshman
John Boutureira led the Ducks offensively with three goals each while junior
Michael Serrante chipped-in with two. Junior

Kevin Rafferty combined for nine saves in goal.
As a team, the Ducks out-shot Alfred 45-36 and put three more shots on goal. Stevens also forced 31 Alfred turnovers.
Alfred jumped out to the early advantage with two goals over the first nine minutes, but the Ducks answered with an unassisted goal from junior
Colin Sawula before Serrante connected on the equalizer with one minute left in the first quarter.
Freshman
Tommy Dawson continued the run with a goal two minutes into the second quarter, but the Saxons responded with a pair of goals during the eight minute mark to regain the lead, 4-3. The Ducks scored two of the next three goals to tie game at five before Alfred netted two unanswered to take a 7-5 lead into the break.
Junior
Matt Ferentini cut the Alfred deficit to one early in the third, but Alfred responded with a 3-0 run until Hammell ended it with an unassisted goal one minute into the fourth.
Boutureira continued the Stevens run with a goal four minutes later before Serrante brought the Ducks to within one with a score off a pass from senior
