UNION, N.J. (March 30, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell to in-state rival No. 6/7 Kean University 7-1 on Monday.
 
The Cougars opened the scoring with a three spot in the top half of the first inning. After the first two batters reached base on a single and a fielder's choice to put men on first and second, a sacrifice bunt moved each runner up 90 feet. Junior Sal Taormina blasted a double to score both runners and freshman Zachary De Leon brought him home with a single through the right side.
 
Kean (16-4) tacked on another run in the top of the second on an RBI single by sophomore Tyler Heisch. Stevens (8-9) trimmed the lead down to three in the of the sixth after a sacrifice fly by junior Zeph Walters drove in senior Gregg Nickels. Taormina added two more RBI's to further stretch the Cougars lead as he delivered a two-run single to left field. Kean added an additional run on a successful safety squeeze bunt to add an insurance run.
 
Toro went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases for the Ducks, who also received a double from sophomore Michael Mule'. Freshman David Ferrara had his first career hit in the top of the first, while classmate Quinn DiPasquale made his collegiate debut, tossing an inning in relief. Junior Jayson Yano tossed six and a third innings striking out four.
 
Heisch went 2-for-4 for the Cougars while Taormina had four RBI's. Senior Casey Carothers threw a complete four hitter while striking out seven.
 
The Ducks are on the road on Wednesday as they take on Trinity College at 3:30 p.m.
