HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 5, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team will battle Baruch College Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Scranton.
Game time is set for 5 p.m. on the campus of The University of Scranton.
BACK TO THE DANCE The Ducks are making their third overall appearance in the tournament, and first since 2011. Stevens reached the second round in 2009.
This year's bid is the first at-large invite in program history.
THE BRACKET Host Scranton will play Eastern Connecticut State University Friday at 7 p.m. for the right to play the winner of Stevens vs. Baruch. Saturday's second round game will tip-off at 5 p.m.
SCOUTING BARUCH The Bearcats bring a 24-4 record into the tournament and are coming off a CUNYAC championship. Led by senior Sheridan Taylor's 13 points per game, Baruch features four different players who average double-figures in scoring.
SETTING STANDARDS The Ducks 22 wins this season are the most since Stevens won 23 during the 2008-09 campaign. The Ducks are two wins shy of tying the all-time mark set in 2008.
STAR POWER Junior
Kaitlyn Astel enters the tournament as the Ducks leader in scoring (16.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg). Last week she became the first player since
Dani Dudek in 2009 to be named the Empire 8 Conference's Player of the Year.
RIPKEN RISING Junior
Miranda Ripken was named to the E8 championship's all-tournament team after leading the Ducks with a season-high 16 points and eight rebounds. The Maryland native has scored in double-figures in four straight games.
BOARD CRASHER Freshman
Anna Toke is averaging 11 rebounds per game in the last four contests. In 14 games prior, the Stevens rookie averaged just 2.2.
