Baseball Clipped By Arcadia, 7-6

GLENSIDE, Pa. (April 15, 2015) – Junior Nick Sieber went 2-for-3 with two RBI's, but the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team fell to Arcadia University 7-6 on Wednesday.

The loss snaps the Ducks seven game winning streak and drops them to 15-10 while Arcadia improved to 14-9.

The Knights knocked in four runs in the first two innings, the big blow coming on a two-run double by junior Connor Arsenault. Stevens cut into the lead in the top of the second when Sieber drove in sophomore Michael Mule' with a double down the left field lne.

Arcadia took advantage of a fielding error in the top of fourth as sophomore Austin Eppenstein touched the plate to stretch the lead back to four. The Ducks did not go away, as Mule' drew a bases loaded walk to score a run to start the comeback in the top of the sixth.

The Ducks knotted the contest at five in the top of the eighth when Sieber drove in junior Jayson Yano who had reached on a one out single. The next batter was senior Brian Hennelly who had entered as a pinch hitter two innings earlier, and Hennelly hit a big triple to right field scoring pinch runner Tommy Baronner and Sieber. Stevens took the lead in the top of the ninth when Yano roped a single to right center to score classmate Jonathan Toro.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Arsenault reached on an infield single. A pair of errors loaded the bases, and senior Dan Shiramizu grounded into a fielder's choice to tie the game at six. Sophomore Justin Chasmar hit a single to center field to score Michael Nessel and lead the home team to a walk-off victory.

Yano went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while the Ducks swiped six bags, led by three from Toro. Senior Peirce Marston started and fanned six over five innings while freshman Quinn DiPasquale tossed two perfect innings in relief.

Arsenault went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's while Pat Shevlin went 2-for-3.

Stevens has a quick turnaround, as they travel to RPI tomorrow for a 4:30 contest.
