Men’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 14 Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (April 18, 2015) – Despite four goal games from junior Andrew Scrutchfield and sophomore Connor McKeon, the Stevens Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team fell to No. 14 Nazareth College Saturday , 18-13.

The loss dropped Stevens to 8-6 while Naz moved to 11-4.

Scrutchfield also added three ground balls while junior Matt Ferentini scored three goals. Sophomore Kevin Rafferty made 10 saves in net, and freshman Tommy Dawson assisted on three goals.

As a team, the Ducks outshot Naz 50-45 including a 29-28 advantage in shots on goal.

Naz jumped out to early 3-0 lead four minutes into the first, but Stevens responded with a score from McKeon followed by one from Ferentini.

McKeon follow that up with the equalizer during the two minute mark before junior Anthony Raposo put the Ducks ahead off a pass from Dawson with one minute to go in the opening quarter.  Naz tied the game early in the second, then scored four of the next six to take an 8-6 lead into the break.

The Ducks deficit moved to 11-6 with eight minutes to go in the third, but senior Michael Maroon ended the run with a score off a feed from McKeon. McKeon's man-up goal two minutes later brought the Ducks to within one before Scrutchfield and Ferentini cut the deficit to one heading into the fourth.

Naz answered the Stevens run however with three goals over the first five minutes to go back up four, followed by two more in the next five minutes to go up five. Scrutchfield got Stevens back on the board less than thirty seconds later, but the deficit proved too much to overcome as Naz closed the game on a 2-1 run to seal the win.
