Stukenborg Reaches Milestone in Field Hockey Loss

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 1, 2015) – Stevens Institute of Technology junior field hockey goalie Emily Stukenborg became the program's all-time saves leader Tuesday in the Ducks 7-0 loss to No. 4 The College of New Jersey.

Stukenborg bested the mark of 298 set by Stephanie Smith in 2008.The loss dropped Stevens to 0-1 while TCNJ moved to 1-0.

The Ducks controlled possession to start the game before the Lions gained control and recorded the first goal of the game two minutes in. Senior goalie Felecia Heard made the save on TCNJ's next shot, but the Lions quickly recovered with a goal off an across the crease pass.

A penalty stroke goal extended the deficit to three before the Lions poured-in two more to build the 5-0 lead. Stevens was able to respond with a trio of shots in the final eight minutes of the half, but it's all the offense they would muster before the horn sounded on the first half.

The Ducks rallied with back-to-back shots to start the second half, but Lions goalie Kelly Schlupp made the save on both to preserve the lead. TCNJ added two more goals to bring the lead to seven where the Ducks held it though regulation.

Stevens tallied its best scoring change of the half with a slew of penalty corners with 10 minutes to go in the half, but TCNJ's defense was able to foil the opportunities each time.

The Ducks will return to action next Wednesday when they hit the road for a 7 p.m. matchup with Drew University.
