HOBOKEN, N.J. (SEPTEMBER 19, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball topped Kean University in four sets before dropping a five set thriller to Endicott College Saturday.
With the split, the Ducks record stands at 6-8.
Stevens 3, Kean 1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18)In the three sets that the Ducks won they were able to hold the Cougars to under a .100 hitting percentage. Junior
Christina Sciarra led the way with a team best 16 kills while classmate
Mary Tobin recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 17 digs. Freshman
Brianna Perez handed out 33 assists and tied sophomore
Brianna Evans with a team-high three service aces.
Calli Scheuermann had 15 kills while Kendall Sonico and Nicollette Poveromo tallied 18 and 16 assists respectively. Lisa DeGroot had 16 digs with Kassie Hernandez notching a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs.
Endicott 3, Stevens 2 (25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 16-25, 15-9)After dropping the first two sets, the Ducks climbed all the way back to even the match at two sets before falling in the fifth. Stevens saw four players record double-digit digs, and three players notched double-doubles. Senior
Catie Shelton handed out 46 assists to go along with 13 digs while Tobin smashed home 16 kills and 12 digs. Freshman
Emily Ferguson set career-highs with 14 kills and 16 digs and sophomore
Sydni Horner had 31 digs.
Tori McIntyre and Lauren Sheehan combined for 28 kills while Cydney Pierce had 21 digs for the Gulls.
The Ducks open the Empire 8 Conference play Saturday with matches against St. John Fisher College at 11 a.m. and Alfred University at 4 p.m.
