HOBOKEN, N.J. (SEPTEMBER 25, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team opens Empire 8 Conference play Saturday against Alfred University and St. John Fisher College
SCHEDULEStevens will battle Fisher at 11 a.m. before the Cardinals and Saxons meet at 1:30 p.m. The Ducks and Alfred will conclude the afternoon with a 4 p.m. match.
DUCKS CLASSIC RECAPThe Ducks went 2-2 at the Ducks Classic last weekend. They knocked off Arcadia University and Kean University while falling to Stockton University and Endicott College in a five-set thriller.
TEXAS TWOSOMEA pair of freshmen from the Lone Star state had breakout performances last weekend. Setter
Brianna Perez tallied career bests of 33 assists and six digs against Kean Saturday, while also recording double digit assists against Arcadia and Stockton.
Emily Ferguson posted a double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs against Endicott, both of which were a career high.
MILESTONE WATCHJunior
Mary Tobin is inching closer to becoming the third member of the 1,000 kill-1,000 dig club. With 49 kills and 90 digs, she can join former Duck standouts Dawn Herring and
Melanie Volk as the only three reach the elusive milestones. Sophomore
Sydni Horner is 65 digs away from 1,000 in her career and would become the ninth player to reach that mark.
JUNIORS KILLIN' ITTobin and fellow classmate
Christina Sciarra lead the team in kills, with Tobin tallying 149 and Sciarra right behind her with 134. In the Empire 8, Sciarra is currently seventh while Tobin sits in fourth, just 11 behind the conference leader.
SCOUTING REPORTThe Saxons come into the contest with a 1-12 record and having dropped their last 10 matches. Their lone win coming against Chatham University back on September 5. Mary Lou Patnaude leads the team with 52 kills and 12 service aces. Fisher is currently 7-5 on the year, and are led by Anna Marcy's 132 kills and 16 total blocks.
