Pryor Hat-Trick Leads No. 21 Men’s Soccer To Win

HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 5, 2015) – Senior Carson Pryor recorded his second career hat-trick Saturday in the No. 21 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team's 3-2 win over Haverford College.

The win moves Stevens to 2-0 while Haverford falls to 1-1. The hat-trick was the second in as many games for the Ducks.

Stevens edged Haverford 18 shots to 13 while tallying six corner kicks to the Fords three. Junior goalie Mike Renna made four saves in net.

Both teams traded possession to start the game before Pryor peppered the goalie with three shots in-a-row in the 13th minute to no avail. Stevens kept-up the pressure however, and was rewarded with a goal in minute 23.

Off a misplay by the Haverford goalie, Pryor gained control in the box and tapped the ball into the back of the net for the score. The goal was the first of the season for Pryor.

The lead held over the next several minutes until Haverford connected on the equalizer in the 29th minute to knot the game at one. The goal would be all the scoring the match would see the rest of the half as both teams went into the break tied, 1-1.

Haverford gained its first lead of the day with an opening minute goal in the second, but Pryor answered three minutes later with the equalizer. Sophomore Patrick Boylan brought the ball up the left side, sending a cross pass to senior Jay Mikula who quickly re-directed the ball to a cutting Pryor.

The assists were the first of the season for both Mikula and Boylan.

The lead held over the next 20 minutes before Pryor completed his hat-trick with a score in the 86th minute off a pass from senior Joe Cellitti. Haverford attempted to tie game with shots over the final three minutes, but junior keeper Mike Renna made the save on the first before the second sailed high.

The Ducks will hit the road for the first time this season with a Wednesday night game at the College of New Jersey. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
