HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 15, 2016) – Four players scored in double-figures Friday to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team to a 98-63, Empire 8 Conference win over Houghton College.
The win moved Stevens to 7-6 (3-2), while Houghton fell to 5-8 (0-5). The Ducks are unbeaten at home this season.
Junior
Patrick Barron led all scorers with 21 points to go along with four assists, while senior
Alex Lorenz narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and seven boards. Sophomore
Chris Cosgrove chipped-in 14, and junior
Evan Klimchak scored 10 with five rebounds and two assists.
The Ducks shot 49.4 percent from the field, 35 percent from three, and forced a season-high 25 turnovers.
Keyed by four from Lorenz, the Ducks raced out to a 9-2 lead before ballooning the lead to 16 after threes from Cosgrove and Barron. The Highlanders pulled to within seven after a 10-3 run with just over seven minutes to go, however a 13-4 Stevens run put the Ducks up 16.
A Lorenz layup with under two minutes remaining extended the lead to 17, before a layup from junior
Michael Signer put the Ducks up 24 heading into the break.
Stevens continued its domination in the second, opening-up their largest lead of the game at 28 in the half's opening three minutes. A layup from Barron three minutes later put it at 31, before a jumper from freshman
Conor Barron made it 35.
The Highlanders cut the deficit to 30 with eight minutes to go, however its as close as they would get the rest of the game as Stevens easily cruised in the final minutes to the win.
The Ducks will get right back into the action tomorrow with a 3 p.m. game against Alfred University at Canavan Arena.
