HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 30, 2016) – Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball sophomore
Chris Cosgrove scored a career-high 22 points Saturday in the Ducks 75-70, Empire 8 Conference loss to Elmira College.
The loss dropped Stevens' record to 8-9 (4-5), while Elmira moved to 4-15 (2-9).
Cosgrove added a pair of assists and two steals, while senior
Alex Lorenz scored 14 to go along with seven boards. Junior
Patrick Barron scored 11, and freshman
Ryan Coffey chipped-in with seven points and three boards.
As a team, the Ducks shot 40 percent from the field and 80 percent from the line, while forcing 23 Elmira turnovers.
Elmira opened the game with a 9-0 run, but the Ducks chipped-away before a layup from Cosgrove brought the Ducks to within three with 11 minutes to go. Elmira responded with a scoring spurt to re-build the advantage, however the Ducks answered with an 8-0 run capped by a Barron layup to go up one with just over six to go.
The lead didn't last long though as Elmira regained the lead off a three on the next possession, before closing the half on a 14-8 run to take a seven point lead into the break.
Elmira continued their control through the early parts of the second, culminating with an 18 point lead seven minutes in. Stevens was once again able to respond however, exploding with a 21-4 run keyed by going 8-for-8 from the line to pull within one with just under four to go.
Elmira maintained its lead the rest of the day through, sealing the game with six free throws in the final minute.
The Ducks will conclude their six game homestand Tuesday when they host No. 22 New York University in Hoboken.
