HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 15, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team knocked off Montclair State and Haverford during day two of the Stevens Invitational.
The Ducks moved to 24-3 with the two victories.
STEVENS 3, MONTCLAIR 1 (25-13, 25-9, 10-25, 25-9)
In the three sets the Ducks won, they hit .433 or better, while limiting MSU to a .180 clip in the match. Stevens committed only 12 errors in the match, with the Red Hawks committing 16. The hosts also dominated the aces game, tallying 12 to MSU's four.
Senior
Mary Tobin slugged 12 kills and had eight digs, while sophomore
Brianna Perez had a double-double of 37 assists and 11 digs. Tobin and sophomore
Emily Piekarski each notched a trio of aces in the victory.
STEVENS 3, HAVERFORD 0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-19)
The Ducks never trailed in the first set, but Haverford was able to keep Stevens at bay until a 5-0 spurt with senior
Christina Sciarra pushed Stevens ahead 21-15. The Fords came back with four straight, and nine of the next 12 to draw even at 24. The comeback was quick-lived, as a kill by freshman
Casey King and an attack error ended the frame.
With Haverford up 4-2, King served up eight straight to give the Ducks a lead they didn't give up. Haverford pulled within six twice, but the potent Duck offense notched only three attack errors, while the Fords hit .000 during the second stanza. Despite hitting better in the third set, the Ducks slugged .326 with only one error to close out the match.
Tobin pounded home 13 kills and 13 digs, while Perez dished out 32 helpers. King nearly registered a double-double, going for nine kills and 13 digs. Junior
Sydni Horner tallied a match-high 36 digs.
Stevens is back in action Wednesday for a mid-week showdown with NYU.
