EWING, N.J. (October 19, 2016) – The No. 5 Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 1-0 to No. 7 TCNJ Wednesday.

The Ducks dropped to 13-1-0, while the Lions moved to 13-0-1.

Freshman Julia Panko fired the first shot eight seconds into the game, but TCNJ responded with four of the next five, including a pair that caught iron in the third and 21st minutes. The Lions continued the pressure, as a shot by Jessica Goldman also rang off the crossbar in the 30th minute. With time winding down in the first period, senior Raba Nassif had a free kick opportunity that was saved by the Lions keeper with seven seconds left.

Senior Rachel Chavkin ripped shot that was saved by Jessica Weeder. Weeder punted the ball, after it was misplayed by a Duck defender, Christine Levering passed a ball to Elizabeth Thoresen. Thoresen stayed onside and beat a charging Stevens goalkeeper to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the 49:59 mark. It was first time this season that the Ducks trailed.

The Lions continued to pepper junior Lindsey Mahnken with shots, including three consecutive after the goal, but Mahnken was able to make the stops. The Ducks best chance happened in the 72nd minute, as shots by freshman Gabriella Saade and Panko were unable to find the back of the net. Stevens had one final chance with nine seconds left, but a shot by Chavkin went wide.

TCNJ doubled up on the shot total, 24-12 while holding a 6-4 edge on corner kicks. Mahnken made five saves in the setback, while Panko led the way with three shots.

The Ducks will travel to Elmira on Saturday for 12 p.m. match against the Soaring Eagles.
