SELINGROVE, Pa. (October 21, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team dropped a 21-25, 21-25, 22-25 decision to Susquehanna Friday.
With the loss, the Ducks fell to 25-4, while the River Hawks moved to 25-5.
The visitors jumped out to an early lead in set one, before the hosts used a 5-0 run to pull ahead 14-10. Freshman
Casey King served up back-to-back aces to pull Stevens within four markers, but the Ducks were unable to pull all the way back and a service error ended the first set.
Susquehanna tallied 10 of the first 12 points of the second frame, and Stevens tried to slowly climb out of the early hole. Four straight points with King on the service line brought Stevens within five, forcing the River Hawks into a timeout. Despite getting as close as three points, another service error ended the period and put the visitors in 2-0 deficit.
The Ducks reversed course and stormed out to a 9-5 lead. A big double-block from freshman
Sara Hain and senior
Christina Sciarra pushed the edge back to four, before Susquehanna came all the back to tie things at 21. The hosts closed out with four of the final five points of the match to complete the sweep.
Junior
Sydni Horner had 26 digs while King had 17 digs and seven kills. Freshman
Shelby Stewart and Sciarra tied for the team lead with four blocks.
Erin Byrne led Susquehanna with 13 kills in the victory.
The Ducks complete Empire 8 Conference play with matches against St. John Fisher and Alfred tomorrow.
