NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 22, 2016) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball didn't drop a set in three wins at the NYS Regional challenge Friday and Saturday.
The Ducks finish the regular season at 30-4, and will host No. 4 St. John Fisher next Saturday in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
STEVENS 3, RIT 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-15)
The Ducks held the national leader in kills, Sarah Szybist to a mere eight kills over three sets, while the Engineers hit .194 in each of the final two sets. Senior
Mary Tobin led Stevens with 16 kills and 10 digs, while freshman
Casey King had a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs.
STEVENS 3, ROCHESTER 0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-23)
Senior
Christina Sciarra led the team with 13 kills in a key regional victory over the Yellow Jackets. King notched her second double-double of the tournament with 11 kills and 12 digs, while junior
Sydni Horner tallied 18 digs. In the first set, Stevens with .237 with only three errors, while U of R had seven and hit only .070. Freshman
Shelby Stewart was a force at the net, tallying four blocks with sophomore
Brianna Perez handing out 35 assists.
STEVENS 3, ROWAN 0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-16)
The Ducks controlled the Profs from the beginning of the match, slugging .643 in the opening frame. Freshman
Kristen Edmiston notched three kills on five attempts, while classmate
Taleen Mitchell hit .368 with 10 kills. Fellow first-year
Sara Hain belted five kills and three block assists, hitting at a .625 clip. Sciarra and Perez each recorded three aces in the sweep over Rowan.
